CALLING ALL COMMUNITY LEADERS: BIG FUTURES SEEKS LOCAL MENTORS TO INVEST IN THE NEXT GENERATION

Big Brothers Big Sisters Invites Local Professionals, Business Owners, and Community Leaders to Become Mentors to High School Students in Cumberland and Salem Counties

CUMBERLAND & SALEM COUNTIES, NJ – Big Brothers Big Sisters is seeking dedicated community members, professionals, business owners, and local leaders to volunteer as mentors for its Big Futures program, an initiative designed to help high school students explore career opportunities, develop essential life skills, and prepare for successful futures beyond graduation.

Through Big Futures, students have the opportunity to establish meaningful connections with mentors who provide guidance, encouragement, professional insight, and real-world perspectives as they navigate important academic, career, and personal decisions.

As students begin thinking about life after high school, access to positive role models and professional connections can make a lasting difference. Whether discussing career pathways, navigating college applications, developing financial literacy, or sharing personal experiences, mentors play an important role in helping students recognize their potential and envision what is possible.

What Does Being a Big Futures Mentor Look Like?

Big Futures offers a structured and accessible mentoring experience designed to accommodate the schedules of working professionals and community members.

    Mentors will:

    • Communicate directly with their assigned students through text messages and phone calls.
    • Provide consistent encouragement, guidance, and support as students work toward their academic and career aspirations.
    • Share professional experiences, industry knowledge, and personal insights.
    • Participate in monthly cohort meetings, creating opportunities to connect with students and fellow mentors in a group setting.

Mentors do not need a background in education or counseling. We welcome individuals from all professional backgrounds and industries, including healthcare, business, education, skilled trades, technology, entrepreneurship, public service, and beyond.

    Why Become a Mentor?

By volunteering with Big Futures, you have the opportunity to:

    • Help students explore career interests and postsecondary opportunities.
    • Introduce young people to professional fields and career pathways.
    • Help students develop confidence, communication, and essential life skills.
    • Build meaningful relationships with the next generation of community leaders.
    • Make a lasting investment in the future of Cumberland and Salem Counties.

A stronger community starts with stronger connections.

We believe every young person deserves access to individuals who believe in their potential and are willing to help them reach it. Your experience, perspective, and willingness to show up could make a difference in a student’s future.

GET INVOLVED – BECOME A BIG FUTURES MENTOR!

Local professionals, organizations, and businesses interested in becoming involved are encouraged to connect with the Big Futures program to learn more about volunteer mentoring opportunities.
