Citizens United To Protect The Maurice River - What It's Like To Be A Bug: Diptera / 5-19-26

Enjoy an engaging and informative program on flies and mosquitoes presented by Michael Hoban of the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. This session will explore the complex lives of these often-misunderstood insects, highlighting their life cycles, behaviors, and ecological roles.
While mosquitoes and flies are frequently viewed only as pests, many species serve as pollinators, decomposers, and vital food sources within the food web. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how these insects fit into healthy ecosystems and how science informs management practices.
Following the presentation, take part in a hands-on garden bioblitz where you will observe, identify, and document insects found on site. This interactive experience offers an opportunity to apply what you have learned while contributing to community science efforts and building a greater appreciation for the biodiversity thriving just outside our doors.
Participants may wish to bring note-taking supplies. We will spend time in the garden during this class. Dress appropriately for the weather.
