Citizens United To Protect The Maurice River - Membership Meeting & Presentation / 1-14-26

Join CU Maurice River for its first membership meeting of the new year to learn about the activities the staff has planned for 2026. Stay for a presentation from CMBO’s and New Jersey Audubon’s Tom Reed on the Christmas Bird Count.
This presentation will explore the nation’s longest-running community science bird project and how volunteers track bird populations each winter. The data collected helps scientists understand long-term trends and supports conservation efforts locally and around the world.
Long-running community science initiatives like the Christmas Bird Count provide valuable data that track trends and changes within key habitats such as the Maurice River. The Wild and Scenic Maurice River and its tributaries support an impressive diversity of wildlife, offering essential habitat for shorebirds, songbirds, waterfowl, and raptors. Its tidal wetlands host thousands of wintering waterfowl each year, and more than 230 bird species have been recorded throughout the watershed. These community-driven monitoring efforts play an important role in understanding and protecting the region’s nationally recognized natural resources.
