Citizens United To Protect The Maurice River - Family-Friendly Friday: Astronomy Party / 7-25-25
Join CU Maurice River for a hands-on evening of astronomy at Belleplain State Forest during July’s Family-Friendly Friday: Astronomy Party. Located in one of New Jersey’s darkest sky areas, Belleplain offers ideal conditions for observing the night sky with minimal light pollution—perfect for families and amateur astronomers alike.
In partnership with the South Jersey Astronomy Club and Belleplain State Forest, this event gives visitors a chance to explore celestial objects through high-quality telescopes and learn directly from local astronomers. Attendees will learn about the summertime sky, how to identify major constellations, and gain perspective on our place in the solar system.
Belleplain’s unique location in southern New Jersey—surrounded by protected forestland and near the Wild & Scenic Maurice River—offers more than just excellent stargazing conditions. This largely undeveloped landscape plays a vital role in reducing light pollution in the region, allowing for clearer views of the night sky. Areas like Belleplain help maintain dark-sky environments not only for astronomical observation but also for the health of local wildlife and ecosystems that rely on natural light cycles.
There is very little cell phone service in Belleplain State Forest to use your GPS, so please check your directions prior. Only red light flashlights permitted.
