Citizens United To Protect The Maurice River - CU Saturday: Trash Hunt / 3-21-26

Join CU Maurice River Saturday, March 21, for the 34th Annual Cumberland County Trash Hunt, sponsored by the Cumberland County Clean Communities Program. Since its beginning in 1992, this long-running effort has removed more than 930 tons of trash from across Cumberland County’s 75,000 acres, with a focus on game preserves, wildlife management areas, and other public lands. Volunteers will once again come together to clean up priority sites throughout the county, helping protect natural areas that are vital to wildlife, recreation, and water quality.
The importance of this work continues to be clear. In 2021, Keep America Beautiful released the largest litter study ever conducted in the United States, tracking trends from 2009 to 2020. While the study found a promising 54 percent reduction in trash along roadways, waterways fared worse and continue to accumulate significant amounts of litter. Thank you to everyone who has participated in past cleanups and helped make a difference. Let’s keep the momentum going and continue improving the health of our waterways. Join us on March 21st and become a CU Litter Obliterator!
Be Prepared
Trash bags and gloves will be provided. There are a limited number of litter pickers to lend out, so bring your own if you have one. Please wear sturdy footwear and dress for the weather. Also bring a wheelbarrow if you own one, to help move trash from the woods out to the road.
