Join CU Maurice River at its next Membership Meeting on Wednesday, July 9 at 6:30 pm to learn about upcoming opportunities to get involved and out-of-doors. This gathering is public and will be held at John Boggs Hall in Port Elizabeth. Afterward, stay for a presentation by Dr. Lisa Ferguson, Director of the Research and Conservation Department at The Wetlands Institute.
In her role, Lisa oversees diverse programs focused on coastal birds, diamondback terrapins, horseshoe crabs, and wetlands health and restoration. She prioritizes opportunities for collaboration, early-career development, and community engagement in the department. Her work explores the ecology of coastal species and habitats to address conservation, restoration, and management needs.
Lisa received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology at Clemson University and joined The Wetlands Institute in her current position in 2013. She will present on wildlife and habitat monitoring related to restoration projects at the Seven Mile Island Innovation Lab. You'll have the opportunity to visit this restoration site for August's Tuesday on the Fly at The Wetlands Institute.
Prior to the meeting, at 5 pm, there will be an informational session for community scientists to volunteer in the surveying of flora and fish for the upcoming Manumuskin River project. Field work is set to kick off in July. All riverfront property owners and anyone interested in helping out are invited to attend
