Citizens United To Protect The Maurice River - Volunteer Workgroup: Fall Planting / 10-11-25

Join CU Maurice River at the WheatonArts Urban Oasis for a fall planting day on Saturday, October 11. Planting will begin at 9 am. and will continue until completed. During this work event, CU Maurice River will focus on planting in a few areas. It has  purchased plants from a wholesale native plant nursery in Woodstown - New Moon Nursery. If you have common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) plant runners that you would like to dig up from your garden or common milkweed seeds to donate, please bring them! Milkweeds are the only host plants for the monarch caterpillar; and more are planned to be added to the  gardens to benefit the monarch populations.

The WheatonArts gardens have been a vital part of CU Maurice River's summer Nature Journaling class for the past several years,  providing an opportunity for students to see a variety of plants, insects, and wildlife up close for study. 
 
Purchased species to be added to the upland pollinator gardens are:

• Hairy beardtongue (Penstemon hirsutus)
• Gray goldenrod (Solidago nemoralis)
• Red columbine (Aquilegia canadensis)
• Maryland goldenaster (Chrysopsis mariana)
