As part of its 2026 theme, The Messy Side of Conservation and Sustainability, join CU Maurice River for a behind-the-scenes tour of Espoma Organics to explore how this industry leader produces organic fertilizers designed to build healthy soils and resilient plants.

Participants will learn about the sourcing of natural ingredients, composting and blending processes, and the science that transforms raw organic materials into nutrient-rich products. This is a unique opportunity to see firsthand the complex and sometimes messy work involved in creating fertilizers that prioritize long term soil health and environmental responsibility.
 
The program will also examine why sustainable alternatives matter. Conventional synthetic fertilizers can contribute to nutrient runoff, degrading water quality, fueling harmful algal blooms, and threatening aquifers and downstream waterways.
