As part of its 2026 theme, The Messy Side of Conservation and Sustainability, this outing offers a behind-the-scenes look at Giordano’s Waste & Recycling Management. Participants will learn how this fourth-generation, family-owned company saves reusable materials from landfills by recycling metals, paper, plastics, and managing food waste. The tour highlights the complex, hands-on processes involved in modern recycling and explores Giordano’s history, which began in the 1940s with Joseph Giordano, Sr. and has grown into a state-of-the-art facility serving the waste and recycling industry today. This program also emphasizes why recycling on a global level is essential to environmental and watershed health. Recycling conserves natural resources, saves energy, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and prevents pollution from entering waterways and groundwater. By diverting waste from landfills, recycling facilities help protect local ecosystems, support cleaner water downstream, and contribute to healthier communities and a more sustainable future.
