| Join CU Naturalist Bert Hixon for a spring birding excursion at Belleplain State Park. Bring your binoculars and curiosity as the group sets out on a guided driving tour, stopping at select locations to explore the park’s diverse breeding habitats. From upland forests to wetlands and coastal plain woodlands, Belleplain provides ideal conditions for a variety of nesting species. With Bert’s expertise, participants may encounter summer tanagers, hooded warblers, Acadian flycatchers, Louisiana waterthrush, yellow billed cuckoos, and other seasonal highlights. Birders of all experience levels are welcome. Although located just beyond the Maurice River watershed, Belleplain shares many of the ecological characteristics that make the region so significant for wildlife. Its protected landscapes contribute to the broader network of habitats that sustain migratory and resident species throughout southern New Jersey. After the tour, stick around and enjoy a picnic lunch in the park with fellow bird lovers. Dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes or boots. Biting insect season has begun, so please take appropriate precautions. Don't forget your binoculars and your picnic lunch. |
