Citizens United To Protect The Maurice River - Landis Sewerage Authority Tour / 9-1-26

Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Landis Sewerage Authority (LSA) and discover how one of New Jersey's most innovative wastewater treatment facilities is redefining conservation. As part of CU Maurice River's "The Messy Side of Conservation and Sustainability" series, you'll learn how wastewater is transformed into valuable resources through methane-powered energy generation, solar and wind power, groundwater recharge, and sustainable farming practices that return nutrients to the land instead of sending them to a landfill.

LSA is also a designated CU Maurice River Eco Leader, recognizing its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. Joining the tour will be Dennis Palmer, former Executive Director of LSA and a CU Maurice River board member, who will offer additional insight into LSA's innovative approach to conservation.
 
Beyond treating wastewater, LSA is a large-tract watershed steward, managing nearly 1,800 acres dedicated to wildlife habitat restoration, forestry, and agriculture. This expansive landscape provides important habitat for species ranging from bobwhite quail to swamp pink while helping protect the Maurice River watershed.

Through its stewardship of both land and water, LSA demonstrates how the everyday operations of a working utility can support large-scale conservation and watershed health. Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately as the tour will take place partially outdoors. Sturdy walking shoes or boots are encouraged.
