Citizens United To Protect The Maurice River - CU's Big Day / 5-16-26

Enjoy a full day of birding, paddling, and community at CU Maurice River’s Big Day celebration. The morning begins at 7 am with a Dawn Song bird walk along Hansey Creek Road, guided by past and present World Series of Birding team members. This early spring stroll moves through a variety of habitats alive with migrating warblers and other seasonal highlights, offering excellent opportunities to observe and learn from experienced birders.
 
At 9:30 am., it's time to go to the water for the Hansey Creek Paddle, exploring the quiet back creeks of the Delaware Bay. Bring your kayak or canoe and lifejacket for an up-close look at shorebirds, wading birds, osprey, and perhaps even river otters along these productive marshes within the greater Maurice River watershed.
 
The day concludes at 4 pm with the Ah Why Knot Awards celebration, hosted at the home of CU Board President Jane Galetto. This annual gathering honors dedicated volunteers and members of the Shorebird Recovery Team with great food, live music, and camaraderie around the fire. Whether you come for one activity or the entire day, Big Day is a meaningful way to celebrate nature and the community that works to protect Down Jersey’s remarkable landscapes.

Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather as all events will be out-of-doors. Wear a hat, sunscreen, and use bug spray. Don't forget to bring plenty of water and your binoculars.
