Open Auditions at Cumberland County College
Cumberland County College’s Department of Theatre will present “You Can’t Take It With You” on April 12-15. Open auditions for the production are set to begin at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29 in the Luciano Theatre of the Guaracini Performing Arts Center, 3322 College Drive.
Director Deborah Bradshaw seeks nine men and seven women for a variety of roles. Members of the community are invited to audition. Auditions will consist of readings from the script. No monologues are required. Sides for the audition process will be supplied. Resumes and headshots will be expected. Rehearsals will take place 5-8 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Winner of the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, “You Can’t Take It With You” is a heart-warming and critically acclaimed comedy, by Moss Heart and George S. Kaufman, that is considered one of America’s best.
The story takes place in the large house of a zany New York City family. Join Grandpa Vanderhof and his good-natured, though eccentric family, as they meet the stuffy and more conservative Kirbys. And then watch as hilarity ensues.
Young Tony Kirby brings his parents to dine at the home of his girlfriend, Alice Sycamore, on the wrong evening. Alice’s peculiar extended family—which includes her philosophical grandfather, hapless fledgling ballerina sister, and her fireworks enthusiast father—might prove too peculiar for her snooty prospective in-laws. The shock sustained by the Kirbys shows that Alice’s marriage to Tony is out of the question. But a visit by the ex-Grand Duchess of Russia, who currently earns her living as a waitress, may just change their minds.
