Citizens United To Protect The Maurice River - Membership Meeting & Volunteer Awards

Each year, CU Maurice River takes time to celebrate the incredible energy and dedication of its volunteer team. As we gather for our Annual Meeting, we reflect on the many ways our volunteers have made a difference. More than 200 individuals have contributed over 8,000 hours toward protecting and enhancing Wild and Scenic Maurice River's outstanding natural resource values. From tending the gardens to leading nature walks, cleaning up our riverbanks, restoring habitats, collecting data, managing wildlife, and lending a hand at festivals and field trips, their efforts have left a huge positive mark on our community.
 
The commitment of these volunteers is the heartbeat of CU Maurice River. Their generosity of time and spirit keeps Down Jersey’s environment thriving. During the meeting, we will honor those who have gone above and beyond for local environmental and community health. Volunteer Service Awards will be presented to those who have devoted over 100 hours this past year. Join us to celebrate their achievements and the community of stewards that power CU Maurice River's mission.
 
During the meeting portion, CU Maurice River staff will provide a summary overview of the organization's business, programming, and outreach activity. The Board of Trustees is recommending the election of three nominees -- Roger Asselta, Michelle Borek, and Karen Williams -- who have expressed an interest in serving a three-year term. Join CU Maurice River at the meeting to meet the candidates and learn more about their passion for Down Jersey's great out-of-doors and how they got involved with CU Maurice River.
 
After the meeting, enjoy a presentation by Fred Akers, Operations Manager of the Great Egg Harbor Watershed Association. The Great Egg Harbor River, a designated National Scenic and Recreational River, was the first Wild and Scenic River in the United States to be fully managed by a local jurisdiction in partnership with the National Park Service. Fred will discuss the ongoing restoration efforts on Tuckahoe Island.
