Classes are held at the Atlantic County 4-H center located on Route 50 between Mays Landing and Egg Harbor City. Pinelands K9 Club is now offering a new class structure to benefit a deeper understanding of canine behavior for the class participants. Week one is now an introduction to the class and canine behavior 101. Week One of the class does not allow dogs\, it is a lecture with dogs for demo work only. The class includes homework for the students to work their dogs at home prior to coming to the week two session. The instructors demonstrate the exercises for homework and show what a trained dog will be able to do.\n\n\n\nOften people may fail to succeed due do a lack of understanding their dog. The introductory lecture talks about how dogs communicate with each other through body language\, voice in-fluctuations and eye contact. The instructor explains dominance and submission\, how to read your dog\, leash work and praise\, recognizing your dog's reactions to people\, dogs and corrections. They explain collars and how they work and the differences between various collars. The instructors talk about how to properly hold a leash and give an appropriate correction\, what kind of treats to bring\, and release words. There will also be an opportunity for questions at the end.\n\n\n\nEarly training and socialization are key to having a well-behaved dog. Classes are open to all dogs\, whether mixed breed or purebred\, and include AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Classes\, Beginners\, as well as competitive obedience training for Novice\, Open and Advanced. Fee for a six week session is $120.
