SUMMARY:CU Maurice River Eagle Walk - Jan. 19\, 2019
DESCRIPTION:CU's Saturdays will take you to beautiful and interesting natural areas both near and far. The first walk of the 2019 series will be held at the Natural Lands' Glades Wildlife Refuge. Kick off a year of outdoor fun on CU Maurice River's Annual Eagle Trail Walk. This event offers a wonderful opportunity to meet CU members as well as 2019's outing leaders. On Saturday\, January 19th at 10:30 a.m. join CU Maurice River Naturalists Jane Galetto\, Tony Klock\, and Mary Watkins for a winter walk on the Eagle Trail located in Natural Lands' Glades Wildlife Refuge. We are pleased to invite you to experience and learn more about the the eagle recovery project while also exploring other signs of nature that we find along the trail.\n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\n \n \n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n CU Maurice River's Eagle Walk is a celebration of New Jersey's eagle program success. Twenty-some years ago the bald eagle was federally listed as an endangered species and was sliding toward extinction. At the time there was only one active nest in our region. After many years of diligent conservation work\, the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife now monitors 204 nest sites\, of which 185 were documented as active in the 2018 Bald Eagle Project Report. They also noted having found 30 new eagle pairs in New Jersey this nesting season: 20 in the south\, 9 in central and 1 in the north. The report highlights the Delaware Bay region as the state's eagle stronghold\, with roughly half of all nests located in Cumberland and Salem counties and the bayside of Cape May County. \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\n \n \n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n On CUMR's Eagle Trail Walk a host of CU Maurice River trustees\, naturalists\, World Series Birding Team members\, nature enthusiasts\, and employees will be present. They will discuss the history of the rehabilitation project\, highlight the role volunteers have played\, interpret other natural points of interest\, and provide information on how you can get involved in CU's environmental mission. We hope that you\, your family\, and friends will join us for a winter walk. \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\n \n \n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n WHEN\n\n Saturday\, January 19th\, 2019\n\n 10:30 a.m.\n\n WHERE \n\n Meet at Eagle Trail \n\n Glades Wildlife Refuge\n\n RSVP REQUIRED\n\n Registering helps us plan better! \n\n Please take a moment \n\n to let us know you will be attending. \n\n LUNCH\n\n When you sign up\, be sure to note whether you plan on joining us for lunch at the Landing Restaurant in Newport. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n	\n\n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n\n	\n \n \n \n \n \n \n\n Be prepared...\n\n \n\n Please look at the weather report and dress appropriately. We recommend that everyone wear waterproof boots as the trail can get quite wet and/or muddy at times. While CU Maurice River has pairs of binoculars it can lend out\, our reserves are limited. So\, please bring a pair if you have one. After the walk we will be going to the Landing Restaurant in Newport. Having cash on hand would be helpful for the waitresses. We appreciate your taking the time to RSVP by clicking the button above!
