SUMMARY:Citizens United To Protect The Maurice River - Downe Township Horseshoe Crab Festival - Volunteers Needed / 5-10-25
DESCRIPTION:The Downe Township Horseshoe Crab Festival is a celebration of the Delaware Bayshore's natural and cultural values. It will take place on Saturday\, May 10\, 2025\, in Fortescue\, 11 am-4 pm. Multiple outdoor sites along Fortescue's beautiful bayshore will be open to visitors\, offering live music\, educational activities and exhibits\, artists\, craftsmen\, eco-tours\, food vendors\, wildlife and environmental lectures\, and more.\n\n\n\nThe festival is in honor of the annual natural phenomenon of horseshoe crab spawning\, which brings thousands of horseshoe crabs to New Jersey's Delaware Bayshore. Downe Township is a certified horseshoe crab sanctuary. The inaugural festival was held in 2014 to celebrate the fifth anniversary of the sanctuary designation.\n\n\n\nFestival attendees will have the opportunity to learn about how they can help horseshoe crabs and why their population's success is vital to the red knot\, a shorebird species whose population is in a sharp decline.\n\n CU Ambassadors are crucial in helping spread CU Maurice River's mission to the broader community. Volunteers can also help foster the next generation of Down Jersey stewards by assisting in educational activities for younger festival-goers as well as the young at heart.
